While a low end plastic hairbrush would cost you just a dollar a hand tied bristle brush for body can cost you as much as a hundred dollars. However if you spend $5 – $15 you will find a variety of average bristle brush to choose from. The price of a bristle hair brush depends on the quality of bristles being used. It could be boar, porcupine, metal or nylon. Moreover a bristle brush comes in 4 basic designs – rounded, classic, vented or cushioned. One should carefully consider their hair style they want to go for before choosing the bristle brush.

About the various kinds of bristles:

Boar Bristle: Boar bristle brushes are made out of actual hair of a hog and are highly popular because of their ability to seal the layer of your hair cuticle. When the outside layer of your hair is shielded you get hair which is shiny and beautiful. Boar bristle brushes come with natural, soft and flexible bristles which are suitable for all kinds of hair.

Porcupine Bristle: Also known as tufted bristle, this kind of bristles is a mixture of boar bristles with nylon. They are excellent for use on thick hair since it helps to exert a strong hold on the locks.

Metal Bristles: Mostly used on wigs and hairpieces this kind of bristles is to be avoided at any cost.

Nylon bristles: this includes all kinds of bristles made out of nylon, plastic or rubber. They are firm and flexible and soft on hair. The most closely spaced the nylon bristles, the better grip you have over your hair.

Now let’s take a look at the different styles of hairbrushes available. Any style conscious individual should have one from every category.

Bristle BrushVented Brush: This brush comes with flexible bristles which are widely spaced. Since it allows for good airflow while brushing your hair; the vented brush is mainly used for hair drying. The widely spaced bristles also come with tiny protective balls on their tips to prevent damage of hair and scalp. However you need to replace this brush when the balls start to come off.

Cushioned Brush: This kind of bristle brush comes with an oval shaped padded head when the bristles are attached. A flat padded brush is ideal for use on long hair. The air cushion and the bristles have been specially created to collapse whenever it meets any obstacle. Therefore they help in preventing long locks of hair from being stretched and broken.

Round Brush: This is a round brush with a metal barrel for a well defined motion. Generally a round brush is recommended for some nice natural bends and curls. The thermal round stylers come with vented cores which are of aluminum. Once the metal barrels are filled with hot air from the blow dryer, the holes create a perfect air circulation in them. Thus one can get a dry and crisp hair in no time.

Classic styling: These brushes consist of half rounded heads and five to seven rows of nylon bristles. The head of the brush which is a rubberized round shape are quite effective in creating a natural bend in the hair.
